she is, however, very fun to hang out with a majority of the time. at least, she is if you're willing to be immature and childish, which is the mode she's in most of the time. that attitude is also precisely why most aren't surprised when they realize how full of energy she is. it's rare for there to be a moment in time when december isn't moving all around and being just an all-around pain to try to keep up with. one of the good things about her neverending energy is that she certainly knows how to get the crowd going whenever she's doing a show. her being so friendly is yet another bonus, and this leads to her trying to involve the crowd as much as possible whenever she can - which, of course, they love.
despite hanging out with boys for a majority of her life and typically getting along with them better, she's not exactly a tomboy. she has a few traits that normally only guys have, but that's really about it. for example, she can be dirty-minded, and if the opportunity presents itself, she probably will be. december also enjoys the occasional shooter video game, but other than those, she's really not very... guy-like. she swears she's too "lovey" to be like a guy, which is true - she's very affectionate and touchy-feely, things like that. in other words, she's a bit of a flirt... but she doesn't actually do it on purpose. come to think of it, that just may be a reason why she doesn't get along with girls so well. for some crazy reason, they think she's flirting with their boyfriends, or their crushes, or whoever, but december just doesn't understand why.
though she normally seems like she's one of the happiest people around, that guess couldn't actually be farther from the truth. when she was fourteen years old, she was diagnosed with depression, depression that she's on medication for, but it still seems like it's just lurking around the corner, waiting for her to forget to take her pills, let her guard down. nonetheless, this is one of the much lesser-known facts about herself, and her doctor is really the only one who knows about it. the same doctor also informed december that her insomnia was probably a side effect of the depression. she's not supposed to strain herself because it will stress her out, but she loves music way too much to let anything get in her way - fuck doctor's orders.

history;; the youngest of two children, december was born into a happy, loving family - one of those stable, nuclear families that you always see in tv shows. her parents, mitchell and willa, were in love, married, and her older brother, denver, was a pest, but that was to be expected. he had his good moments, just like any older brother. he was just two years older than her, so they got along pretty well... whenever they weren't having a brother/sister moment and biting the other's head off in irritation. things couldn't stay that close to "perfect" for very long, though, which really should have been expected in the first place, especially considering the long hours that mitchell seemed to be working as the years went on.
it probably shouldn't have been such a surprise when willa found out that her husband was, in fact, cheating on her. the pair tried to work things out on the condition that he wouldn't do it anymore, but it was only so long before he was caught again. ten years old at the time, december hardly knew what was going on. after a fierce custody battle, she and denver ended up moving with their mother to nebraska - they were to travel to their father's house for holidays and every other summer vacation. mitchell ended up dating the girl he'd been messing around on his wife with, and there wasn't really anything bad about him except for the fact that he'd treated. he was still a great father figure, still doted on his children when he saw them, and his girlfriend, jayna, was even nice to them, welcoming december and denver with hugs whenever they saw each other. things were almost even better than they'd been before the divorce, what with the lack of tension because mitchell wasn't around. now there was a reason to that fact; they could stop worrying about it.
things changed once again when december was around twelve years old. for the last year or so, willa had been dating a man called lee. he was friendly enough, even if he didn't dote overly on her children as mitchell and jayna did. he was good to willa, didn't seem to mind her children, and, after approximately a year of the two dating, he proposed to her. she gladly accepted, picking up her two "babies" and moving in with her now-fiancee. both december and denver liked it there, and lee was even nicer to them now that they all lived with him. he'd read them stories, occasionally even play uno with them (whenever december could persuade her "much too cool" fourteen-year-old brother to play, of course). willa was so happy, even though her job as a teacher began taking up more and more of her time as more and more assignments were needed to be completed. she'd often stay after-hours at the school to try and get all of her work done before coming home, which left december home with lee most of the time, because denver preferred to hang out with his friends instead of his family at home - his family that was, more often than not, a count of two because willa was working.
lee got impatient. that was how it all started, december thinks. one night, he got impatient waiting for her mother to get home, and there was something he wanted from her, so he got it from the only person that was around - december. things that she never wanted to happen to her, to happen ever, happened that night. and not just that night. whenever willa worked late, things of that nature happened, and the young girl was too young to try to fight them - to fight lee - off. one night during her sixteenth year, though, denver came home early from a friend's house and found out. never before had december seen her brother more angry than he was that night, and lee paid for his wrongdoings that night. he ended up in the hospital with a sobbing december falling apart in her elder brother's arms. willa arrived late to the scene, but all denver said of his stepfather's injuries was that he'd been mugged. when lee awoke, he agreed with denver, and the incident was never brought up again. lee also never so much as went near december again. it probably helped that denver refused to leave her home alone after he'd found out. the siblings never really talked about any of it after it was done and over with, minus denver asking on occasion if lee had kept his distance. somehow, the entire family managed to at least seem like they were okay, but lee, decemeber, and denver all knew that things would never be the same again; willa, on the other hand, remained oblivious, thanks to december's begging that her brother wouldn't tell a soul about what had happened.
she just wanted to forget it. she wanted to kiss her boyfriend, isaac, without freezing up; she wanted to hang out with jim, aaron, august, and penelope. she wanted to play her music and sing, she wanted to do what she wanted. above all, december wanted things to be normal. but they weren't, and eventually the atmosphere of the broken home got to her. about three months after the whole disaster had gone down, december packed her bags and left - she ran away from home, leaving only a letter to her brother to say that she hoped she'd see him again someday. her friend penelope, who was around three years older than her, was planning to move to los angeles to go and live with her boyfriend who had moved there the year before, so december just tagged along... even though it took a lot of begging to get her friend to be okay with it. los angeles was actually where december was discovered, playing her music in a seedy bar some night or another. it was all a bit of a whirlwind from there, but she got signed, and now she's on the if you can't hang tour, which is basically a dream come true for the aspiring musician.
